Description The story centers on the relationship between Hinako, who has moved to a coastal town upon entering university and Minato, a young firefighter with a strong sense of justice. Hinako loves surfing and while fearless on the sea, she's still uncertain about her future. Following a fire mishap in the town, Hinako and Minato encounter each other. As they spend more time surfing together, Hinako feels drawn to Minato, who dedicates himself to help others. (Source.

Ruo neng yu ni gong cheng hai lang zhi sang dans les. When I first watched the film, I thought the pacing was way too quick for me to actually understand what was going on. Although I will say that the fire fighter scenes were pretty intense regardless if they were only training or had to attend buildings that were on fire due to fireworks.
I understood this films backdrop involving the feeling of losing someone through drowning and honestly the ending was a near hard hitter for me. However I would have liked if the couples experience together was more in depth because as I said yet again, it was rather rushed. It didn't give much in depth either with the other guy who had a crush on her or if he was going for someone else. Since I'm not gonna say spoilers to telling you who's who, it's best to watch the film.
Animation wise, it was pretty alright. Not amazeballs but it was easy on the eyes at least.
As much as the film did offer a bit of emotion, it's not the ultimate worse or disappointment I've ever seen. However room for improvement is what it definitely definitely needs in terms of story pace development.

Ruo neng yu ni gong cheng hai lang zhi shangai. Thank god the script writer avoids all the common cliche from a Japanese anime. It's a sincere and touching story, worth the time.

Same japanese romantic movie, nothing really special. Skip it.

This is quite a cleverly interwoven crime story. Hugh Grant is surprisingly good in the role of a sort of camp narrator, as he tries his hand at blackmail by regaling an unflappable Charlie Hunnam with his interpretation of the goings-on around the attempted sale of an empire of ill-gotten gains by a really under-rated Matthew McConaughey, to an even more sexually ambiguous American billionaire. It's funny, mischievous and slick. Colin Farrell doesn't feature extensively, but when he does, he is cool and entertaining. There is a surfeit of Anglo-Saxon which I felt was a touch necessary - after a while it stops being a laugh and starts irritating. At times the script is witty and well paced, but for most of the film there is too little action and much too much verbiage. A good watch, though.

The rise of media streaming has caused the downfall of many DVD rental companies such as Blockbuster. In July 2015 an article from the New York Times published an article about Netflixs DVD services. It stated that Netflix is continuing their DVD services with 5. 3 million subscribers, which is a significant drop from the previous year. On the other hand, their streaming services have 65 million members. In a March 2016 study assessing the “Impact of Movie Streaming over traditional DVD Movie Rental” it was found that respondents do not purchase DVD movies nearly as much anymore, if ever, as streaming has taken over the market. Watch Movie The Gentlemen, viewers did not find movie quality to be significantly different between DVD and online streaming. Issues that respondents believed needed improvement with movie streaming included functions of fast forwarding or rewinding, as well as search functions. The article highlights that the quality of movie streaming as an industry will only increase in time, as advertising revenue continues to soar on a yearly basis throughout the industry, providing incentive for quality content production.? Napapansin ko incompetent itong si duki. just saying lang 🤣🤣🤣. Emperors, literary figures or simple villagers: Chinese portrait painters depicted people from all walks of life. Artworks spanning five centuries are now on display in Europe for the first time. "Faces of China. Portrait Painting of the Ming and Qing Dynasties (1368-1912) is the first exhibition in Europe to focus on Chinese portrait painting; most of the more than 100 exhibits are on display for the first time on the continent. The curator of the exhibition, Klaas Ruitenbeek, became director of Berlin's Museum für Asiatische Kunst (Museum for Asian Art) in 2010. He spent four years preparing the show in cooperation with the Palace Museum in Beijing and the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto.  DW met him to discuss the traditional art of Chinese portrait painting.  DW: You once said that preparing an exhibition in a museum compares to telling stories. What are the stories revealed by Chinese portrait painting? Klaas Ruitenbeek: I've always been fascinated by the fact that half of the paintings created in China were traditionally not recognized as art. They were not exhibited or collected — they were meant for one's family. They were the portraits of parents and grandparents created to be worshiped through rituals, year after year on holidays. Mainly, these are the stories of regular citizens from all parts of society, real portraits of real people, including the faces of villagers who lived 600 years ago. Of course, the exhibition also includes imperial portraits and paintings of writers, artists and famous women. Read more:   Germany opens massive art show in China Dutch art historian Klaas Ruitenbeek heads Berlin's Asian Art Museum Who commissioned these portraits? And what led regular citizens to have their portrait done, too? Families would want for example their grandmother to be painted because she was old and might not live much longer. In China, it's important to have a portrait of your parents and grandparents. Your family is part of your identity to a much greater degree than is the case here. The second important category of portraits we show in the exhibition are informal portraits of senior officials and literary figures who commissioned paintings, as well as self-portraits painted by the artists themselves. Did the painters have names, were they cult figures like some were in Europe? The caption underneath some of the paintings reads: unknown artist. Every Chinese person has a name, every beggar, orphan and painter. The names were known: People would go to Liu the painter and ask him to paint their grandfather, Wang. He would come to their house, make a sketch, and return to his workshop to paint a formal painting, complete with a beautiful robe. The names have been lost, but back then, everyone knew them. There are no anonymous portraits in China or in Europe; the difference between Chinese and European painting is that paintings, in particular those of ancestors, were not signed. Read more:  Leonardo da Vinci unveiled his enigmatic 'Mona Lisa' 500 years ago The exhibition of paintings from the collections of the Palace Museum in Beijing and the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto spans more than 500 years. The early portraits have small, flat faces, a style that changes over the years. Is that due to a European influence? Chinese portraits of writers, artists and the educated upper classes usually show the entire body, with a rather smaller face. Classic European portrait painting — we have a van Dyck on display to show the difference — focuses on the upper body, the face is almost life-size and the background is uniform. But every culture is open to interaction. Many of the works are on loan from the Palace Museum in Beijing. How did that cooperation go? It was great. Of course, we've long had personal and scientific contacts with the curators there. And not only did they promise us almost all of the masterworks we wanted to have, they also gave me free reign to arrange the exhibition. I was able to make last minute changes, and such trust is not necessarily a given. They also waived lending fees. Instead, we agreed that in about three years' time, a major exhibition from Berlin's Staatliche Museen will be headed to the Palace Museum. The exhibition "Faces of China. Portrait Painting of the Ming and Qing Dynasties (1368-1912) is open through January 7, 2018 at the Berliner Kulturforum.

Shot over the course of ten years on both film and video, the film consists of a series of carefully composed tableaus of people and environments, each one more extraordinary than the last. Pedestrians shuffle across a bustling Beijing street, steelworkers linger outside a deserted factory, tourists laugh and scamper across a crowded beach, worshipers kneel to pray in a remote village. Share Passengers on a train, tourists at the beach, factory workers, farmers, construction workers and students: in a series of portraits, the famous Chinese independent film director Wang Xiaoshuai ( Frozen, Beijing Bicycle, 11 Flowers) captures the state of his nation. Each portrait is a carefully composed long shot, using a static camera that captures one or more people in motionless poses. But there's always movement somewhere in the frame: not all the subjects remain still, and animals, passersby and children don't obey the protocol. The resulting scenes are fascinating, moving photographs in which there's always something more to discover. The director shows us a modern China that's a rich mix of new buildings and old courtyards, derelict industrial sites, countryside and big cities. What's most striking here is the seemingly endless amount of construction projects. This film is a motionless, non-narrative snapshot that calls a temporary halt to all this inexorable change. In COLOR OUT OF SPACE, Nathan Gardner ( Nicolas Cage) and his family. wife Theresa ( Joely Richardson) daughter Lavinia (Madeleine Arthur) elder son Benny (Brendan Meyer) and youngest son Jack (Julian Hilliard. have given up life in the city to work Nathan's father's farm raising alpacas. Hydrologist Ward Phillips ( Elliot Knight) comes by to study the water in the area, just before a glowing meteor crashes into the Gardners' front yard. Everything quickly starts to go haywire. Not only does Ward find that the water has been tainted, but Jack gets sick; large, inedible fruits and vegetables grow; the animals begin to mutate; and everyone starts acting very oddly as odd colors radiate everywhere. Is it any good? A clever, potent adaptation of a story by H. P. Lovecraft, this sci-fi shocker with a little humor and effective visual FX manages to capture the source material's unique, unnamable enigma. Writer-director Richard Stanley (of the 1990 cult classic Hardware) and co-writer Scarlett Amaris bring Lovecraft's 1927 story into the present day -  and also discard the story's flashback structure -  but keep the original tale's moods and ideas intact. The evil is never explained or seen in Color Out of Space, except in the form of ethereal patterns of poisonous, seeping colors and in the shocking mutations of living things. It's constantly intriguing. and definitely unsettling. Cage's performance isn't quite as consistent here as it was in the terrific 2018 horror film Mandy -  when he gets unhinged here, it's inadvertently funny -  but things balance out before the final act. Cage also provides some intentional humor (as when he watches himself being interviewed on TV about possible aliens) and Tommy Chong is terrific as a freaky old hermit. Q'orianka Kilcher co-stars as the mayor of the Gardners' town; it seems as if there might once have been more to her character, as her appearances in the finished film don't amount to much. But otherwise, the characters in Color Out of Space are vivid and dimensional, and their warm humanity lies in direct contrast to the horrors in the woods. Talk to your kids about... Movie pirate proxy download cinema 2019 year color out of space 1. Peter Sobczynski January 23, 2020 According to IMDb, the seemingly inexhaustible Nicolas Cage has no fewer than six additional movies in various stages of production that are currently scheduled for release in 2020, ranging from high-profile studio outings to the kind of demented head-scratchers that he somehow manages to sniff out in the manner of a pig finding truffles. And yet, none of these films may be able to top his latest effort, Color Out of Space. in terms of sheer nuttiness. Considering that the film takes its inspiration from one of the most famous short stories by the legendarily weird H. P. Lovecraft, and was directed and co-written by Richard Stanley (making his first stab at narrative filmmaking since being fired from his remake of “The Island of Dr. Moreau” after only a few days of shooting) there was very little chance that it was every going to be just another run-of-the-mill project. However, the addition of Cage to the already heady cinematic brew definitively puts it over the top, making it the kind of cult movie nirvana that was its apparent destiny from the moment the cameras started rolling. Advertisement The film centers on the Gardner family, who have recently left the hustle and bustle of the city for a more bucolic life in a remote house near a lake in the deep woods of Massachusetts. While father Nathan (Cage) is gung-ho about becoming a farmer and raising alpacas (“the animal of the future”) despite no discernible talent for either, wife Theresa ( Joely Richardson) is preoccupied with recovering from a recent mastectomy, eldest son Benny ( Brendan Meyer) is off getting stoned most of the time, teen daughter Lavinia (Madeline Arthur) vents her annoyance at the move by dabbling in the black arts with her paperback copy of “The Necronomicon” and young son Jack ( Julian Hilliard) more often than not simply gets lost in the shuffle. The Gardners are not crazy or hostile in any way, but it also becomes quickly obvious that their isolation has begun to drive them all a bit batty.  That weirdness escalates one night when the sky turns an almost indescribable shade of fuchsia, and a meteorite crashes into their front yard. Although the meteorite itself soon crumbles away, strange things begin happening in its wake. A batch of new and heretofore unseen flowers begin blooming while Nathans tomato crop comes in weeks ahead of schedule; the familys phones, computers, and televisions are constantly being distorted by waves of static that render them all but useless. The Gardners themselves begin exhibiting signs of strange behavior as well: Nathan begins acting daffier than usual, flying off into rages at the drop of the hat; a seemingly dazed Theresa chops off the tops of a couple of her fingers while cutting carrots; Jack is constantly staring and whistling at a well that he claims contains a “friend. ” Before long, everything in the area begins mutating in indescribable ways, and while Benny and Lavinia recognize what is happening around them, even they appear to be powerless to escape the grip of whatever is behind everything. The stories of H. Lovecraft have inspired, directly or otherwise, any number of films over the years but with very few exceptions (chiefly Stuart Gordon s cult classics “ Re-Animator ” and “ From Beyond ”) most of them have not been especially good. In most cases, the problem is that Lovecrafts stories tended to focus on indescribable horrors and much of the impact for the reader came from taking the vague hints that he did parcel out and then picturing it in their own minds, where their imaginations had no limitations or budgetary restrictions. To successfully adapt one of his works, a filmmaker needs either an unlimited budget to try to bring his horrors fully to life, or the kind of unlimited imagination that allows them to take Lovecrafts suggestions and go off in their own unusual directions. When these requirements are missing, the results can be fairly dire, as anyone who saw “The Curse, ” a dire low-budget 1987 adaptation of Color of Outer Space, can attest. In this case, the film works because it is clear that Stanley is not only working on the same wavelength as Lovecraft was when he wrote the original story, but has managed to transform the authors decidedly purple prose into cinematic terms. Take the titular color, for example. In the original story, it is never properly described to us other than being of a shade never before seen on the typical color spectrum. That sort of non-description description can work on the page but isnt especially helpful as a guide for someone who has to bring it to life. Stanley proves himself to be up to the challenge, and hits upon a wild color scheme that honors Lovecrafts intentions by bathing everything in a genuinely otherworldly tinge. Not content to rest there, he builds upon that weirdness with an equally vivid soundscape, including a creepily effective score by Colin Stetson. Stetson's score shifts levels of reality in aural terms and conjure up the kind of terrors that are even harder to shake than the numerous and undeniably eye-popping physical mutations on display. Stanley also manages to work the films additional otherworldly element—Cage's performance—organically into the material, without losing any of its total strangeness in the process. For fans of oddball cinema, a Cage-Stanley collaboration is the stuff dreams are made of. In that respect, it does not disappoint. Obviously, once things go crazy in the second half, Cage brings out the weirdness full force (even randomly employing the wheeling vocal tic that he used decades earlier in “Vampires Kiss”.  But what is interesting is that, instead of making Nathan into a completely normal guy who does an immediate 180 as a result of the strange occurrences, he and Stanley instead see him as a guy who is already a bit off right from the start, albeit in endearingly oddball ways. As a result of his work in these early scenes, there is an unexpected degree of poignance that he brings to the proceedings later on even as things go fully gonzo. The chief problem with “Color Out of Space” is that, at nearly two full hours, it is a little too much of a good thing at times, with some plot elements—chiefly one involving potentially shady dealings by the towns mayor (Qorianka Kilcher)—that could have easily been jettisoned. For the most part, however, the film is the kind of audacious and deliriously messed-up work that fans of Stanley, Cage, and cult cinema have been rooting for ever since the existence of the project became known. Both as an effective cinematic translation of Lovecrafts particular literary skills, and as a freakout of the first order with sights and sounds that will not be easily forgotten, this is one of those films that I suspect is going to grow in significance and popularity in due time. Hopefully it will serve as just the first of many collaborations between Stanley and Cage, two decidedly kindred artistic spirits. Reveal Comments comments powered by.

"The Colour Out of Space" Title page of "The Colour Out of Space" as it appeared in Amazing Stories, September, 1927. Illustration by J. M. de Aragon. [1] Author H. P. Lovecraft Country United States Language English Genre(s) Science fiction, horror Published in Amazing Stories Media type Print ( Magazine) Publication date September 1927 " The Colour Out of Space " is a science fiction/horror short story by American author H. Lovecraft, written in March 1927. In the tale, an unnamed narrator pieces together the story of an area known by the locals as the "blasted heath" in the wild hills west of the fictional town of Arkham, Massachusetts. The narrator discovers that many years ago a meteorite crashed there, poisoning every living being nearby; vegetation grows large but foul tasting, animals are driven mad and deformed into grotesque shapes, and the people go insane or die one by one. Lovecraft began writing "The Colour Out of Space" immediately after finishing his previous short novel, The Case of Charles Dexter Ward, and in the midst of final revision on his horror fiction essay " Supernatural Horror in Literature. Seeking to create a truly alien life form, he drew inspiration from numerous fiction and nonfiction sources. First appearing in the September 1927 edition of Hugo Gernsback 's science fiction magazine Amazing Stories, The Colour Out of Space" became one of Lovecraft's most popular works, and remained his personal favorite of his short stories. It has been adapted to film several times, as Die, Monster, Die! 1965) The Curse (1987) Colour from the Dark (2008) The Colour Out of Space ( Die Farbe) 2010) and Color Out of Space (2019. Synopsis [ edit] A 2012 illustration by Ludvik Skopalik showing the well on Gardner Farm with the mysterious colour emerging, central to the story An unnamed surveyor from Boston, telling the story in the first-person perspective, attempts to uncover the secrets behind a shunned place referred to by the locals of Arkham as the "blasted heath. 2] Unable to garner any information from the townspeople, the protagonist seeks out an old and allegedly crazy man by the name of Ammi Pierce, who relates his personal experiences with a farmer who used to live on the cursed property, Nahum Gardner. Pierce claims that the troubles began when a meteorite crashed into Gardner's lands in June 1882. [3] The meteorite shrinks but does not cool, and local scientists cannot discern its origin. As it shrinks, it leaves behind "globules of colour" which are referred to as such only by analogy, 4] as they fall outside the range of anything known in the visible spectrum. The stone is eventually destroyed by six bolts of lightning, and the lab specimens are destroyed when placed in a glass beaker. The following season, Gardner's crops grow unnaturally large and abundant. When he discovers that, despite their appearance, they are inedible, he becomes convinced that the meteorite has poisoned the soil. Over the following year, the problem spreads to the surrounding vegetation and local animals, altering them in unusual ways; the plants around the farmhouse become "slightly luminous in the dark. 5] Gardner's wife goes mad, and he locks her in the attic. Over time, Gardner isolates his family from the neighboring farmers; Pierce becomes his only contact with the outside world. [3] Shortly after the onset of Mrs. Gardner's madness, the vegetation erodes into a grey powder, and the water from the well becomes tainted. One of Gardner's sons, Thaddeus, also goes mad, and Gardner locks him in a different room of the attic. The livestock turns grey and dies off; like the crops, their meat is tasteless and inedible. Thaddeus dies in the attic. Merwin, another of Gardner's sons, vanishes while retrieving water from the contaminated well. After two weeks with no contact from Gardner, Pierce visits the farmstead and witnesses the tale's eponymous horror in the attic. Gardner's final son, Zenas, has disappeared, and the "colour" has infected Nahum's wife, whom Pierce puts out of her misery. Pierce flees the decaying house as the horror destroys the last surviving resident, Nahum. [3] Pierce returns later that day to the farmstead with six men, including a doctor, who examine Nahum's remains. They discover both Merwin and Zenas' eroding skeletons at the bottom of the well, as well as bones of several other creatures. As they reflect upon their discoveries in the house, a light begins to shine from the well; this becomes the colour, which spreads over everything in the vicinity. The men flee the house and escape as the horror blights the land and then flies into the sky. Pierce alone turns back after the colour has gone; he witnesses a small part of it try to follow the rest, only to fail and return to the well. The knowledge that part of the alien still resides on Earth is sufficient to disturb his mental state. When some of the men return the following day, they find only a dead horse and acres of grey dust. The Gardners' neighbours leave their homes and flee the area. [3] Background [ edit] Lovecraft began writing "The Colour Out of Space" in March 1927, immediately after completing The Case of Charles Dexter Ward. [6] As he wrote the tale, however, he was also typing the final draft of his essay on horror fiction. Supernatural Horror in Literature. 7] Although the author himself claimed that his inspiration was the newly constructed Scituate Reservoir in Rhode Island, Lovecraft scholar S. T. Joshi believes that the planned Quabbin Reservoir in Massachusetts must have influenced him as well. American writer and pulp fiction enthusiast Will Murray cites paranormal investigator Charles Fort, and the "thunderstones" lightning-drawing rocks that may have fallen from the sky) he describes in The Book of the Damned, as possible inspirations for the behavior of the meteorite. [8] Andy Troy argues that the story was an allegory for the coverage of the Radium Girls scandal in The New York Times, with the symptoms of the Gardners matching the newspaper's description of radium necrosis. [9] Lovecraft was dismayed at the all-too human depiction of aliens in other works of fiction, and his goal for "Colour" was to create an entity that was truly alien. [10] In doing so, he drew inspiration from a number of sources describing colors outside of the visible spectrum. Most notably, Joshi points to Hugh Elliott 's Modern Science and Materialism, a 1919 nonfiction book that mentions the "extremely limited" senses of humans, such that of the many "aethereal waves" striking the eyes, The majority cannot be perceived by the retina at all. 11] Lovecraft had used this concept previously, in his 1920 short story. From Beyond. 11] Completed by the end of March, The Colour Out of Space" first appeared in Hugo Gernsback 's science fiction magazine, Amazing Stories in September 1927. [12] The story was illustrated by J. de Aragón, an artist who produced occasional artwork for the magazine. [13] Reception and legacy [ edit] The Colour Out of Space" appeared in the September 1927 edition of Amazing Stories "The Colour Out of Space" became the only work from Amazing Stories to make Edward O'Brien's anthology of The Best American Short Stories, 14] appearing in the 1928 "Roll of Honor. 7] Gernsback paid Lovecraft only 25 [3] approximately 368 in present-day terms) and was late in doing so, leading Lovecraft to refer to the publisher as "Hugo the Rat. 14] He never again submitted anything to the publication. [12] Lovecraft did not write another major short story until the following year, when he crafted " The Dunwich Horror. although he did pen " History of the Necronomicon " and " Ibid " as minor works in-between, 10] as well as an account of a Halloween night's dream that he called " The Very Old Folk. 7] In addition to being Lovecraft's personal favourite of his short stories, 10] 15] critics generally consider "The Colour Out of Space" one of his best works, and the first with his trademark blending of science fiction and horror. [12] Lovecraft scholar Donald R. Burleson referred to the tale as "one of his stylistically and conceptually finest short stories. 16] Joshi praises the work as one of Lovecraft's best and most frightening, particularly for the vagueness of the description of the story's eponymous horror. He also lauded the work as Lovecraft's most successful attempt to create something entirely outside of the human experience, as the creature's motive (if any) is unknown and it is impossible to discern whether or not the "colour" is emotional, moral, or even conscious. [10] His only criticism is that it is "just a little too long. 17] E. F. Bleiler described "The Colour Out of Space" as "an excellent story, one of Lovecraft's finest works; in my opinion the best original story to appear in Amazing Stories. 18] The text of "The Colour Out of Space" like many of Lovecraft's works, has fallen into public domain and can be accessed in several compilations of the author's work, as well as on the Internet. [3] It also had a strong influence on Brian Aldiss 's The Saliva Tree, which has been seen as a rewriting of Lovecraft's tale. [19] In 1984, the novel The Color Out of Time by Michael Shea was published as a sequel to the original novelette. [20] Film adaptations [ edit] The 1965 film Die, Monster, Die! directed by Daniel Haller, is based on "The Colour Out of Space. The film stars Nick Adams, Suzan Farmer, and Boris Karloff. Lovecraft scholar Don G. Smith claims that, of the scenes that are derived from Lovecraft's work, the "blasted heath doesn't live up to Lovecraft's description" 21] 22] and asserts that, overall, the film does not capture Lovecraft's intent to " the idea of an alien life form completely different from anything humans can imagine. 23] Smith considers Haller's work an imitation of Roger Corman 's Edgar Allan Poe films, rather than a serious attempt to adapt Lovecraft's tale. [21] Another adaptation, The Curse (1987) was directed by David Keith and stars Wil Wheaton, Claude Akins, Cooper Huckabee, and John Schneider. It more closely follows the plot of Lovecraft's work, albeit set in the 1980s. Lovecraft scholar Charles P. Mitchell referred to the film as faithful to the author's original work, but Mitchell claimed that " t]he last twenty minutes of the film are so disjointed that they virtually ruin the entire film. 24] 25] The 2008 film Colour from the Dark, directed by Ivan Zuccon, is an adaptation set in Italy. The film stars Michael Segal, Debbie Rochon, Marysia Kay, Gerry Shanahan, and Eleanor James. [26] Bloody Disgusting praised the film, stating Zuccon "managed to do the famous writers twisted tale of unseen terror a really fair share of justice by capturing the bleak, grotesque and utterly frightening atmosphere of the source material very, very well. 27] The 2010 film Die Farbe ( The Color. 28] directed by Huan Vu, is an adaptation set in Germany. It is shot mainly in black and white, the exception being the "Colour" itself. S. Joshi described it as "the best Lovecraft film adaptation ever made. 29] The 2018 film Annihilation — itself based on the 2014 novel of the same name by Jeff VanderMeer — contains numerous plot similarities with Lovecraft's story, most prominently a colorful alien entity that crash lands on earth and begins mutating nearby plant and animal life. [30] A new version was adapted by writer/director Richard Stanley [31] and released in 2020 under the title Color Out of Space. This film stars Nicolas Cage, 32] 33] and Joely Richardson, 34] and was produced by Elijah Wood through his production company SpectreVision. [31] Stephen King says that his 1987 novel The Tommyknockers, in which residents of a small town in rural Maine are physically and mentally affected by the emanations from an alien ship unearthed in the nearby woods, and a major character is also named Gardner, was strongly influenced by "The Colour Out of Space. Like many of his works at that time, it was adapted into a TV miniseries, broadcast in 1993; in 2018 it was reportedly to be developed as a feature film. The movie is remarkably true to the key story points and while the performances are over the top, Richard Stanley captures the dread and charm of Lovecraft in a way I've not seen before. There are a few elements that felt extraneous and felt a bit indulgent for my tastes, but I cannot wait to see Spectrevision and Stanley put together the Dunwich Horror and whatever the third film in his Lovecraft Trilogy might be. Also, I hope you like alpacas, as they feature prominently in this film. January 27, 2020 Format: DVD I love the works of HPL and the mythos around them. A problem for me has always been the adaptations that have come from his work as I find 99% of them to be awful or nothing like the source material they are based on. "The Color Out of Space" is, in my opinion, a return to form for HPL adaptations AND for writer/director Richard Stanley. I loved every minute of this film and thought it did a great job updating the story that takes place around 100 years prior to today. The cinematography, the use of lines from the actual story, the tone, the references to the rest of "Lovecraft Country" the performances, and the actual horror were all great. I will definitely be buying the BD when its released in Feb and I hope it comes with plenty of extras and commentary. I saw this film at Central Cinema in Knoxville, TN January 25, 2020 Format: Prime Video Color Out of Space was based upon a story by H. P. Lovecraft, the celebrated American horror-science fiction writer. The story revolves around a family that live out in the woods who happen to have a meteor crash into their backyard. It infects the water and completely distorts reality for everyone involved. The movie is very mixed and will likely have people love it and hate it as well. Heres the good. The story is very original. There are mixes of great visuals and horror mixed in together. Nicolas Cage who plays the father Nathan gets to play crazy and does a great job, and the daughter Lavinia played by Madeleine Arthur is a standout as well. The problem for me was that I never felt a connection to the film. Even when things started getting weird, which I usually like it just didnt get me interested enough to care. The only redeeming quality was to watch Cage go nuts which is always fun, otherwise the movie did very little for me. January 29, 2020 Format: Prime Video When a meteorite crashes into the Gardener Farm Eldritch Horrors escape and infect the family with its colorful evil. Doing Lovecraft right is a tricky thing mostly because his horrors are usually unseen terrors that you only catch a glimpse of before going punching your ticket for the rubber room. Richard Stanley does a great job of teasing the horror and never really giving you more than a few horrifying glimpses of slimy otherworldly mutations. The few tastes you get are just enough you want to see more but never enough to dull you to the horror. The effects are really good and setup well. There is a scene just as the crazy ball starts rolling that had me wincing waiting for the knife to drop. Nicholas Cage is an excellent fit for the role with his dial to 11 mania but my favorite was Tommy Chong as the old hippie in the woods, Gotta Get It on Memorex. There really needs to be an entire movie series of Tommy Chong Harbinger of Doom. Fans of Lovecraft and fans of Horror in general will finds tons to love about this high energy thrill ride through the natural world run amok. Watch out for the Alpacas, those beady little eyes are watching you too. January 25, 2020 Format: Prime Video saw at Regal Destiny in Syracuse NY had a blast! Would make a great double feature with Mandy. January 26, 2020 Format: Blu-ray I saw this in denver at the sie filmcenter and it really horrified many viewers. Who were commenting how it disturbed them. And it is a disturbing move which utilizes good make up effects that are created mostly, mixed with cgi as well. Nicolas cage really does a good job here and so does the rest of the cast. Cage was acclaimed for his performance in a borror film the year before too. So he is on a role as he goes into his later fifties. This movie is truly a good sci fi horror film that gives a hp lovecraft story some serious filmmaking here. January 28, 2020 Format: Blu-ray Based on a classic slice of short fiction by HP Lovecraft, this long-incubating adaptation is an overly flashy, effects-laden blend of sci-fi and horror. Nic Cage plays a semi-retired family man whose isolated upstate farm is struck by a meteorite, which then evaporates and causes all sorts of bizarre changes in the surrounding environment. Pink trees, mutated animals, unexpectedly abundant harvests, that sort of thing. Among the afflicted is Cage himself, who revels in the chance to amp up every last one of his craziest on-screen tendencies. My god, what a Cage-being-Cage film this is. He's howling, he's gesticulating, he's painted in blood and cackling, he's. suddenly and inexplicably changing accents? I'm not sure how much direction he took here, because it looks like they just focused the cameras and kept rolling while their star actor did whatever felt good, with the occasional interruption from family members or special effects showcases. And, as perversely entertaining as that can be, it doesn't merit a film unto itself. The scraps that surround those indulgent bouts of overacting are awfully scant, narrow and underdeveloped, like the worst '80s straight-to-video productions. It's trippy, but pointlessly so. We get cryptic prophecies and arcane imagery as props, mere window dressing that's waved around and then forgotten. Even the visuals can seem laughably dated, particularly the goopy, absurd creature effects. Catch the highlights when they invariably wind up on a YouTube gag reel - they're almost as funny as Cage's out-of-context lunacy in The Wicker Man - but do yourself a favor and skip the rest.

Color Out of Space Reviews Movie Reviews By Reviewer Type All Critics Top Critics All Audience Verified Audience Page 1 of 8 February 11, 2020 Color Out of Space is one of the most interesting additions to the horror canon in years February 8, 2020 A Lovecraftian audiovisual work where the real horror and terror is to overthrow the anthropocentrism that we all have internalized. [Full review in Spanish] February 7, 2020 Color Out of Space is a brilliant, bonkers, and terrifying experience. It's grotesque and mesmerizing even if the journey is a little sluggish along the way. Richard Stanley's Color Out of Space ultimately ends up stuck in a losing battle, struggling to fully embody the perfectly old-fashioned B-movie body horror flick it tries so hard to be. All in all, The Color Out of Space is only OK. February 5, 2020 Cage in particular is very much in his element, proving his reputation as an undisciplined weirdo is less than deserved. His performance is one long freakout, but a carefully calibrated one, escalating as the situation deteriorates. When a rural escape goes pear-shaped, Nicolas Cage has a field day, whether milking an alpaca, promising "everything's gonna be A-OK. or erupting like a lunatic. February 4, 2020 A delight. And If Crazy Cage is what you're looking for, that's what you'll get as the film goes on. Color Out of Space is probably the best H. P. Lovecraft adaptation I've seen. February 3, 2020 This film is the Cagiest that Cage has been in years - and that's, very much, a good thing. January 31, 2020 Cult director Richard Stanley's latest is a beautifully shot, if slightly bloated, cosmic horror film driven by a Nic Cage performance that stands as one of his best. The latest film adaptation of H. Lovecraft's horror story of a meteor strike in the Massachusetts back woods... Color Out of Space has its flaws, but its quirky energy, excellent performances, and strangely mesmerizing visuals combine to make the whole compensate for its occasionally ill-fitting parts. January 30, 2020 Stanley, with tasteful precision, walks the finest tightrope between Lovecraftian grandiosity and grindhouse grit, resulting in a movie that is both really scary when it's scary and really funny when it's funny, and supremely in control of both poles. January 29, 2020 What do you get when you hire genre filmmaker Richard Stanley, add a crafty and visually alluring premise from H. P Lovecraft, and feature a whacked-out Nicholas Cage as an alpaca farmer? You get something that looks like "Color Out of Space. " January 28, 2020 The screenplay abounds in silliness and miscalculation, there's still plenty to admire about the feature that emerged from its pages. Color Out of Space, co-written with Scarlett Amaris, isn't the equal of Annihilation in the sublime terror department, but it features more scares-per-minutes... January 27, 2020 It has the potential to be the next great (terrible) cult classic, and will definitely find a sympathetic audience in both die-hard Cage fans and D-level horror film enthusiasts. Also, the colors are pretty. A stylish, effective, often darkly funny chiller. As an added bonus, you also get alpaca jokes and Nicolas Cage at his most Nicolas Cage-iest. Cage goes for it, for better or worse, and so does Color Out of Space, for worse. Page 1 of 8.

Written and directed by Richard Stanley (his first film in 25 years, after he was infamously fired three days into production on his long-gestating dream project, The Island of Dr. Moreau (1996)H.P. Lovecraft's 1927 short story "The Colour Out of Space" and takes a good stab at depicting one of Lovecraft's most oblique entities. Mixing humour and body horror (perhaps weighed a little too much towards humour) the film gives Nicolas Cage another opportunity to go full-Cage, and boy does he lean into it - this is the most ludicrous, histrionic, and borderline farcical performance he's given since Vampire's Kiss (1988), and how much latitude you give him may well determine your opinion of the movie.
Just outside the city of Arkham, MA (the fictitious setting of many Lovecraftian stories) Nathan Gardner (Cage) his wife Theresa (Joely RichardsonBrendan MeyerMadeleine ArthurJulian Hilliard) have moved into Nathan's deceased father's property, with Nathan embracing rural life by raising alpacas on the property's farm. On an otherwise normal night, the sky fills with pulsating light and a meteorite crashes onto the Gardners' land, and as time passes, the Gardners start to experience ever-more bizarre events - unnaturally localised lightning storms that seem to come from nowhere; huge fuchsia-like plants that seem to grow overnight; a horrific odour that only Nathan can smell; a gigantic purple mantis flying around; radios and the internet cutting out more than normal; the water turning strange colours; the family's dog, Lavinia's horse, and Nathan's alpacas starting to acting strangely; even time itself appears to be corrupted. And soon enough, the family members themselves begin to show signs of unnatural change.
After some basic narrative preamble and a contemplative sub-Terrence Malick-style voiceover, the film features one of the most inorganic expositionary scenes I've ever seen, as Nathan and Theresa stand on the porch, and spend a good five minutes telling each other things that they both already know. Thankfully though, the clunkiness of this opening isn't a sign of things to come, and one of the film's most consistent elements is the subtlety with which Stanley depicts the entity, or rather, doesn't depict it. Lovecraft felt that if humanity were ever to encounter real cosmic beings, they could be so unlike anything in our experience as to be impossible to describe, or even process in our minds, and one of his aims with "Colour" was to create an entity that doesn't conform to human understanding - hence the only description is by analogy, and even then, only in relation to a colour beyond the visual spectrum. With this in mind, Stanley wisely keeps everything as vague as possible - vibrant, modulating pulses of light that seem to be emanating from somewhere just outside the frame, vaguely-defined spatial distortions, colour manipulations with no obvious source, etc.
Important here is the colour itself, and instead of attempting to create the indescribable colour featured in the story, director of photography Steve Annis chooses to go the route of not settling for any one stable colour - every time we see the effects of the meteorite, the hue appears to be in a state of flux - so although we can say the colours are recognisable, they're never identifiable as any one specific colour, which, is probably the best choice the filmmakers could have made.
As we get into the third act, the film abandons all sense of restraint and goes completely insane, with the body horror which has threatened to break through from the earliest moments finally unleashed, foregrounding the exceptional work of special effects supervisor/creature designer Dan Martin. These scenes are heavily indebted to David Cronenberg, especially his earlier work such as Shivers (1975)Rabid (1977), and The Brood (1979), although the most obvious touchstone is Chris Walas's work on Cronenberg's masterpiece, The Fly (1986). A lot of Martin's creature design also seems inspired by the legendary work of Rob Bottin, and there's a direct visual quote of one of the best moments in John Carpenter's The Thing (1982).
It's also in the last act where Cage is turned loose, signalled by an epic meltdown when he discovers Benny hasn't closed the barn door and the alpacas have gotten out. From there, it's Nicolas Cage unrestrained. There is a problem with this, however. Full-Cage has been seen in films such as Vampire's Kiss, Face/Off (1997)The Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call - New Orleans (2009)Mom and Dad (2017), and Mandy (2018), but each performance has felt fairly organic, never becoming self-conscious. In Colour, however, to an even greater extent than in the virtually unwatchable The Wicker Man (2006), Cage crosses into self-parody, with his performance having as much to do with people's preconceived notions of a Nicholas Cage performance as it does with finding the character. There are a couple of scenes here that seem to have little to do with legitimate character beats and more to do with Cage winking at the audience.
Which might be entertaining and all, but which doesn't serve the film especially well. For all its insanity, this is a relatively serious movie, but Cage's performance is so manic, that it affects everything around it. For example, after the aforementioned meltdown ( Don't you know how expensive those alpacas were. which just about fits with what we know of the character, as Nathan is walking away from Benny and Lavinia, he stops, turns, pauses, shouts "ALPACAS" pauses again, and then walks away. This got a huge laugh at the screening I attended, and it was undoubtedly funny. But does self-reflexive humour by the leading man help tell the story or even create the right tone? No, not in the slightest. In essence, this scene marks the point where the character ceases to be Nathan Gardner and becomes a version of Nicolas Cage.
The other characters all have a kind of internal logic to their crumbling sanity; the meteorite affects each of them differently, with their minds disintegrating in different, but consistent ways. With Nathan, however, Stanley seems unwilling, or unable, to establish the parameters by which his mind is breaking down, seemingly going for laughs rather than something more cogent.
This issue notwithstanding, I enjoyed Colour Out of Space a great deal. Stanley's return to the director's chair is to be admired for its restraint and how faithful it remains to the very tricky Lovecraftian original. The body-horror in the film's last act will appeal to fans of the grotesque, whilst others will take great pleasure from Cage's insanity, as narratively unjustified as it is. The film is ridiculous on many levels, but it's extremely well realised and well made, and is to be applauded for not trying to attach an explicit meaning to a story which avoids any kind of thematic specificity.

It's definitely a Lovecraftian horror movie. It's a thrilling, terrifying, oddly hilarious film, and I cannot recommend it to anyone. Nic Cage is ridiculous as usual, this time basically doing a Trump impression as he gnaws his way through the plot. The rest of the cast does well, though the It's definitely a Lovecraftian horror movie. The rest of the cast does well, though the characters are all super one dimensional, the Witchy Daughter, The Stoner Son, The Working Wife (who really needs that internet) and Nic Cage as whatever the heck he wants. Translating the body horror was excellently done, and I hated every second of it, with an excellent blend of practical effects assisted with CGI. You won't look as alpacas the same way. … Expand.

Ill get some of these boring details out of the way first, because they might be relevant. Who knows? I found the thumb drive in a McDonalds restroom in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, on January 3rd. The service was mediocre but the food was hot and the restrooms were clean. I still felt hungover from New Years in Edmonton, and although the roads were alright the other drivers were typical idiots and I needed to stay alert. I was sitting there in that tiny stall, browsing Reddit, not expecting I was about the find the video that would consume my life over the next month. I pulled on the tail of flimsy toilet paper that was dangling from the dispenser, and along with the see-through thin sheet of paper a small object fell out and clattered on the tile floor. I bent over to get a better look; it was a small blue thumb drive. I dont know why I bothered to pick it up and pocket it. I dont usually put random small objects in my pockets, especially from bathrooms in roadside burger joints. But I did. I finished my business and got out of there, and almost forgot I had the little drive until I made it home safely that evening in Winnipeg. My roommate was still with his family in Newfoundland, so I had our little apartment to myself. I didnt start work until the fifth, so I settled in to lounge around and play pointless video games until the early hours. When I took my pants off, the thumb drive fell out. I held it curiously between my thumb and forefinger. There werent any markings on it besides the brand. There was something about it that made me uneasy; maybe it just seemed so intentional, the way it must have been tucked into that toilet paper dispenser. Like someone was hoping that it would be found. I mulled it over for a few minutes; could it be dangerous? Did it have a virus or some sort of malware that would infect my computer and send all of my personal info to its creator? In the end, curiosity won over prudence. I plugged it into my gaming PC, and had a look. There was only one file on the drive, a large video file just labelled 4. The thumbnail was just a dark blue. So of course, being the naive fool I was, I double-clicked on it. I wont tell you yet what I saw, but I sat there riveted. At first it seemed like it was just someones home movie, but weird things started happening that caught my attention and kept me glued to my seat until the very end. When I got to the end and the file stopped playing, I found myself sitting there in my dark bedroom, in my gross black second-hand office chair, white knuckles gripping the armrests, eyes so wide and unmoving they ached and stung from dryness, mouth gaping like a dead fish. Since then, Ive been desperately trying to piece it all together. First, a few details about the file: its about an hour and forty-five minutes long. Strangely, there is no sound. When the file started I fiddled with my volume controls for a bit before realizing that there just wasnt anything to hear. I right-clicked on the file and opened the properties tab, where I discovered the video properties showed it to be 1280x720, data rate of 6028Kbps, total bitrate of 6161kbps, 29 frames per second. I dont know much about file formats, maybe thatll be helpful to someone. Anyways, the point is: the audio information just says NONE. Whoever edited it did so haphazardly. Scenes cut with no transitions, so its really jarring. Sometimes cuts happen mid-sentence when someone is talking. There a few boring long stretches that really should have been taken out. Maybe it made more sense with audio. I watched the video nearly every day since, pausing frequently to analyze details and piece together what happened. Fortunately, I have an acquaintance who is hearing impaired. Hes Marc, the only other person Ive shown the video too. At first he was pretty wary, thinking I was asking him to use his skill like he was performing a party trick, but once he saw the video he had the same reaction and understood. Unfortunately, he wasnt exactly able to provide a transcript. Sometimes the people in the video arent facing the camera. Marc isnt entirely deaf either, he usually needs some sound in order to piece together speech. And its not easy to figure out whats going on in the video, so context clues arent all there. However, he was able to put together enough to provide some of the dialogue that will be in my description of the video. It helps a bit, but we still dont entirely understand the content of the video. It was on January 20th that I finally made the big discovery, that made me realize I had somehow fallen off the deep end and had to share this all with somebody and put out my plea for help. Okay, Ive gone on long enough. Time to describe whats in the video itself. The first scene is inside a car. From later exterior shots, we discover that its a blue Nissan Altima, probably 2009. The camera is pointed out the window at some rocky hills. There are lots of trees: oak, aspen, maple, and so forth. There are a few leaves just starting to turn orange and red. A sign whizzes past; I later managed to pause and read the text “Hardwood Road 400m. ” This is the first of many clues that helped me figure out their route. Theyre in Ontario, heading west. The camera turns to the driver. Shes stunning; not in the sense of a blonde instagram model, but very regal and beautiful. She had dark black hair with a few strands of white. She has a sharp jaw, grey eyes, and a few lines around her eyes. Late thirties, probably. Shes the reason I kept watching the video, the first time. Marc suspects that shes French Canadian, which is one of the reasons he had difficulty with the transcript. The camera is pointed at her a lot. Were pretty sure her name is Rene. Rene notices shes on camera. She smiles at the passenger. “Theres a Tim Hortons ahead. Want to stop and stretch? ” The passenger probably says something like “Yes, and lets grab a coffee. ” “Great idea, ” says Rene. “The road already feels monotonous. ” Theres a bit of silence. The passenger aims the camera ahead down the road for a bit, then back at Rene. “Are you going to film us the entire trip? ” Rene asks with a smile. We dont hear the response, but Rene laughs, then the scene abruptly cuts. The next scene is on a very long bridge over a mix of wetlands, islands, and river. The camera is mostly pointed at the scenery, but a couple of times it looks over at Rene. At one point, Rene looks thoughtful and says something like “Yes, of course she will. ” We dont know what the question was. We see two flags pass by: one Canadian, one American. I later discovered that this is the border; they are on the Sault Ste Marie bridge, crossing into the states. Im still not sure where in the states they stopped next, but it looks like they took advantage of the opportunity for some cross-border crossing. Theres a shot in the parking lot outside a Walmart, where they are loading their bags into the back of the car. We see the passengers legs and feet in one shot, our first good glimpse of her. What we can see of her outfit is a little more feminine and fashionable than Renes simple, comfortable clothes. Shes wearing white open-toed shoes, and her toenails are painted. Shes wearing a flowing black skirt, and from the glimpse of her left hand holding some shopping bags, it looks like shes got a white knit sweater. They root through the bags and show some of their items to the camera; presumably the audio had an explanation of what theyve bought and why, but at this point in the video its kind of confusing. Theres a waterproof box for the video camera. A bunch of pulleys and ropes. Road snacks and drinks. Nose clips, the kind used for diving. A big pair of bolt cutters. Thigh-length wading boots, like fly-fishers use. Its obvious now that theyre on some sort of mission, but its hard to guess what. It looks like theyre going wading, rock climbing, and diving all at once. When I first saw all of this, I wondered if they were going after hidden treasure or something. The camera pans up to Renes face, catching her mid sentence. Just a note- where you see parenthesis, those are off-camera gaps in the dialogue that weve guessed at. “(That should) be enough. If not. is only an hours drive from the site. ” We think she said the name of a town there, but Marc just screwed up his face and shrugged. He said she spoke it very quickly, and its a complex word. He thinks it has an “s” in the middle and maybe an “r” on the end, and its probably three syllables. If we could figure it out, we might understand more about what happened. The next shot is in the car, driving through North Dakota. Its presumably the next morning. The camera is pointed at Rene, and we only know her side of the conversation, so its hard to guess at whats going on. She sips her coffee and looks thoughtful, like shes listening. “Yeah, were not far off schedule. We should make it to Moose Jaw tonight. ” Between her accent and the strange name of the town, it took us a while to figure out “Moose Jaw. ” It wasnt until I plotted out their route on Google Maps that I realized this must be where they stopped. That was an important realization. In a very roundabout way, it led to me figuring out exactly when this trip took place. This conversation in the car took place on August 24th, 2019. The passenger asks something like “(Do you need a break? Want me to drive? ” “Sure, in a while, ” Rene replies. “Well stop and stretch at the border, and we can switch drivers. ” Theres a gap where neither of them are talking. The passenger turns the camera to the road to take in some scenery, then pans back. Were not sure what the passenger just asked, but Rene looks suddenly serious. “Beth, ” she says, finally giving us the passengers name. “We cant focus on that yet. All we can do is offer her the-” Were not sure of the rest of the conversation. Beths hands get shaky. She looks away from Rene a lot. We know that they continue this important conversation, and Rene starts to look upset but is clearly trying to keep Beth calm. Marc caught a few random words but isnt certain: drive, river, help, and “do our best. ” The scene cuts suddenly with the tension unresolved. The next shot is a brief one. Rene is smiling now, snacking on some cheetos. They are entering a small town; a sign welcomes them to Portal. In the next shot, they have switched seats. We finally see Beth. She is a little younger than Rene, wearing more makeup, and has big round sunglasses on. She is happy now. She puts out her hand, and Rene follows it with the camera down to her own knee. She takes Beths hand in her own and squeezes it. Its a very sweet, sort of Thelma-and-Louise moment. Theyre obviously good friends. Rene watches the road for a bit. We are back in Canada. The trees are getting more sparse, and we can see more and more of the flat boring prairies Saskatchewan is famous for. Road signs are kilometres. Gas prices are in cents per litre. At this point, I think Rene asks Beth what she wants for dinner. “Chinese, ” Beth says with a smile, and laughs. I dont know what the in-joke is, but Im pretty sure of the word because suddenly the scene cuts to the inside of a restaurant. Its a chinese buffet. The first time I watched the video, I felt a surge of recognition, and I realized that Id been to this restaurant before. I didnt figure out where and when until later, when I realized they were in Moose Jaw. Then I realized that this was a restaurant I sometimes stopped at on my road trips back and forth from my hometown to my new home in Winnipeg. Beth has the camera again. She is watching Rene eat. Rene blushes and tries to demur from the camera. As their eating slowed and their chopsticks settled on their plates, their conversation turned serious again. “At least a hundred and fifty feet, ” Rene answers to some unseen questions. “(Do we have enough rope? ” “Yes, we got two hundred and fifty each. Its lots. ” Im not sure what the next question was. “Then we just use the winch and pull ourselves free. ” The next part of the conversation is unknown, because Rene starts fiddling with her chopsticks, mumbling, and grazing on more of her meal. Marc rolled his eyes in frustration at this point, and said something about how “hearing people” do this shit all the time and it drives him nuts. Presumably they continue discussing technical aspects of their adventure. Rene looks very sober and anxious about it, but shes still clearly keeping it together for Beths sake. Beth gently sets down the camera, but for some reason leaves it running and pointed at the interior of the restaurant while she leaves for the bathroom. The other patrons of the restaurant continue eating and dont notice. Another jarring cut to the inside of a hotel room. Beth is ready for bed, in a t-shirt and underwear. Shes sitting cross-legged on the king-size bed, holding an iPad in her lap. Her face is glued to the screen, which is shining blue light up at her. She looks like shes been crying. Its unclear why Rene is recording this, it feels like a violation of privacy, but Beth doesnt seem to mind. She looks up. “Shes still following us, isnt she? ” Were not sure of Renes answer, but it doesnt seem to comfort Beth much. She just nods. Theres presumably some sort of noise, and suddenly they both look to the window. The window must be open a crack, because the sheer curtains are moving gently in the breeze. There doesnt seem to be anything there. Rene spontaneously rushes to the window, still holding the camera. As she approaches it, the scene cuts again. I watched that footage a hundred times, I think, searching for whatever startled them. Sometimes I convince myself I can see a face beyond, but its clear from the view of the building across the parking lot that they must be on at least the seventh floor. Its the next morning, and theyre leaving Moose Jaw. Rene is driving again, clutching a cup of coffee in her right hand and never setting it down. She doesnt look like she slept much. The camera stays focused on her for a solid five minutes as she drives and sips. Then, in response to an unseen question, she suddenly speaks. “Yes. She probably will. ” After another minute and twenty seconds, another cut. Suddenly the camera seems to be inside of a bag or something; its almost completely dark, but the bag must be open enough to show some blurry dark shapes moving around like someone is walking. I later speculated that they were trying to catch a conversation with someone on record, and hidden the camera in a bag. Now though, its just four minutes of vague blurry shapes. Then Rene is holding the camera. Its pointed at Beth. Beth looks like shes been crying, but is putting on a brave face now. They take a left turn at a tiny town called Dunmore, then another theres another sudden cut. They eventually stop for the night. They arent a hotel tonight, but in someones home. From context, Im guessing that these are Beths parents, or some other close relatives. Rene is holding the camera now, pointing it at Beths mother who his cooking on the stove. Shes wearing an old-fashioned pink apron with lace edges, and has a matching oven mitt on. She looks like an older, shorter Beth, with her blonde hair cut into a bob that doesnt really suit her. She smiles nervously when she sees that shes being filmed, and makes some comment about “that camera” before hiding in embarrassment behind the oven mit. Beth steps into frame and laughs, patting her mother on the back and presumably offering to help her cook, because then we see Mom handing her a cheese grater and a block of cheddar. Rene pans over across the kitchen to where Beths father is stepping into the room. He looks stern, almost angry, and is clutching a tumbler of amber fluid like he wants to smash it across Renes face. The father says something, but hes saying it through gritted teeth. Marc thinks part of it is “would lead her through this, ” but thats a guess. Beths mother steps quickly back into frame, gently taking Dads glass and saying something to him to try and calm him down. He looks like hes about to say something, but theres another sudden cut. The next shot is very brief, and confusing. Its a bathroom sink- presumably at Beths parents place. From the lighting it looks like the middle of the night, and the only light on is the bathroom light overhead. The sink is full of strange, wet, tangled gray hair. The angle of the shot doesnt let us see the mirror, so we dont know whos holding the camera. They just linger on the hair for about five seconds, then another cut. The next shot is in the entryway of Beths parents house. Beths mother says something like “Sorry for the (incident) last night. ” She almost elbows Dad in the ribs, and he mutters what must be an apology. The camera pans around the room, momentarily showing Beth and Rene in the hall mirror, before the shot ends. I kept coming back to this shot for some reason. I thought it was noteworthy that this is probably the only shot where we can see both Renes and Beths faces at the same time. But something in the back of my head kept itching over this, and eventually I realized the obvious: from the angle of the shot, the camera should be visible. But neither of them are holding it, and theres no one else there. Next is another highway driving shot. Its short, and just seems to establish that they are leaving Fort MacLeod, a town in Alberta. The next shot is from inside the car. Its unclear what the camera is supposed to be recording, because its on its side and laying on the dash, pointed haphazardly out the passenger window. Its like they set it down, left the car, and the camera turned on by itself. Outside the car is a parking lot, surrounded by coniferous trees. Everything looks like its covered in mist and fog. I speculate that theyve made it to the Rocky Mountains now. They are probably at a rest stop. There is a strange figure across the parking lot. It looks like a gray-haired woman, but I was never able to zoom in on this shot well enough to see. She seems to be just staring at the car, directly at the camera lens. Rene and Beth walk in from out of frame and get into the car. They dont seem to have noticed the woman. As the car starts up, one of them must have noticed that the camera is on, because it shakes like its being picked up. Then the shot ends. After that, its really difficult to figure out their route. The next shot is inside a busy cafe where they order hot drinks and cheesecake, but theres no clues to figure out where it is. Rene is holding the camera. There isnt much conversation, and large parts of it are obscured by Beths hands or her cup. She looks uneasy and distracted. She keeps looking out the window. The next shot is back in the car. At one point I saw a highway sign, but other than knowing that they are now in British Columbia, I cant figure out their location. Beth is driving again, Rene is holding the camera. “You think filming everything will really help? ” asks Beth. “(Filming was your idea. )” “Yeah. Yeah it was, wasnt it? I just thought that we should, because…” This part is unintelligible. Rene asks something, were not sure what. “Maybe itll help. Maybe itll be easier for the next person. ” Theres a long pause in the conversation. “I wish we had never found that USB drive, ” Beth sighs. Obviously, when Marc told me this part, I just about lost my mind. Id already developed some strange kind of connection with Beth and Rene, something that I couldnt put my finger on. But now there was some kind of parallel between us that was emerging. Theres only one more shot. Its impossible to know where, but Im fairly certain that they are now far past the Rockies. The mountains in the background look different, older or more worn somehow. I think they are somewhere in the B. C. interior. They have parked in what appears to be the parking lot of a defunct facility of some kind. Everything is in disrepair. The pavement is riddled with potholes, some of which are already growing saplings. They seem to be in some kind of valley, but its so heavily forested that its hard to see much of the scenery. The camera glances over at the entrance to the parking lot. The road also looks disused. There was a heavy gate blocking the parking lot, but now it was swinging in the wind. I understood why they brought the bolt cutters. Beth is holding the camera. Rene has a very strong, stoic look on her face. She turns to the camera. “Its going to be okay. Remember, she cant hurt you. Okay? We can do this. ” Beth makes some sort of response, and Rene nods. They load up their gear in a duffel bag and begin hiking down an old trail through the woods. Its treacherous; it looks like nobody has been down here in a while. A couple of times Rene takes out a saw and clears some branches to make the way more passable. After a few minutes, a clearing becomes visible ahead. Then they descend below the tree line, and it becomes obvious that this isnt just a clearing. The camera pans over the area, and I think that if I could hear them they would both be gasping in awe. I know I do every time I get to this point. Theyre near the water line now, of what must have been an enormous reservoir. There is mud… literally everywhere. The water must have drained away recently, because its all fresh and wet and brownish-gray. It coats nearly everything below the old water level, except a few rocky outcroppings. Off to the left there is a bank that must have been a picnic spot on the shore of the reservoir, because I can see an area of green grass surrounding a picnic table and a tall lone aspen tree. Around this area is just mud. Rene and Beth carefully hike over to the table. From here, something new comes into sight. There are a bunch of buildings below that mud line, enough to be a hamlet or a small town. Theyre vague ruined blocks now, probably made of brick, coated in mud, like a child had been building houses out of clay and left them half-finished. Beth pans over to Rene, who is kneeling next to the aspen tree, winding a rope around it. She is saying something, but its not very clear because her mouth is obscured by the camera angle and some of the terminology is hard for Marc for decipher. He caught “were going down, ” “the ropes are tight, ” and “pull it tight. ” I thought about finding a friend with climbing experience to explain the setup with the ropes and pulleys to me, but I decided that the fewer people who knew about the video the better. As Rene is finishing setting up the ropes, Beth says something, I have no idea what. Rene nods. She reaches into her pocket and pulls out an envelope. Inside is a piece of lined paper, written on with felt marker. She smooths it out and sets it down on the picnic table. Beth brings the camera over it, and lingers there for a few seconds. Of course, I have paused the playback to read the message several times. Why they wrote it down instead of saying it, I dont know. The whole video theyre acting like I can hear them, but for this brief moment they seem to know that I will have to read this. Were very sorry. We have no control over what happens after this. We tried our best to follow the instructions perfectly, but if we have failed someone else will have to try next. Before you make the attempt, do as we did. Record your journey. Pass on this message: Only one thing will satisfy her. Only one thing will complete the drowned village. Bring it to her, but if you fail, you must pass on the message. The camera panned back up, and settled on Beths face. She had turned the camera around to speak directly into it, but her hands are unsteady so her words arent totally clear. “Shes been following us for (several weeks. Ever since we found the USB drive. We see her everywhere. (We havent been able to) sleep. I hope this is the end of it- if not, you will have to try next. Im so sorry. It happened to us too. Wish us luck, but if we fail) good luck to you. ” Beth set the camera down on the table, and I watched them put on their hip waders, strapping them over their shoulders. Then they strapped themselves into climbing harnesses, and clipped themselves on to the rope. Beth pulled the nose clips out of her pocket and put one on, handing the other to Rene. I was confused by this for a while, then I realized that if this was a body of water that had recently been emptied, it probably stank. The mud was probably full of bacteria, algae, some freshwater plants, even a few fish and other animals. It was all in the early stages of decomposition. Beth picked up the camera and followed Rene down past the water line. They tried to stick to the rocky areas, but sometimes they had to wade carefully through the mud. Some parts looked to be deeper than others, so they had to avoid getting stuck in the more treacherous areas. The purpose of the ropes became obvious: if they got mired in the mud, their only hope might be pulling themselves out. At one point Beth leaned over to examine something. It was like a stringy texture in the uniform grey of everything, stuck into the mud. She reached down and pulled it up, and I realized it was some kind of hair algae or stringy moss. It looked exactly like the “hair” in the sink at her parents house. Now that I was aware of it, I realized it was all over the place. They made it to the largest, and highest-up building. Up close, it was obviously by its architecture that it had been a small old schoolhouse. Rene walked right up to it, and Beth must have said something in alarm, but Rene just looked over her shoulder and smiled. She said something like “it should be safe. ” Part of her speech is cut off as she turns back to the building, then Marc could make out more when she turns back. “They explored it in the last video. I want to see it for myself. ” So in they went. Inside were rows of very old desks. If there had been chalkboards or decorations in the school, they were long eroded or caked in mud. The mud was calf deep, making the seats of the desks look strangely low to the ground. There wasnt really much else to see. They retraced their steps and checked their ropes, then descended to the town. Everywhere it was more of the same. If this town had been sacrificed to build a dam, it would have been cleared of artifacts before it was flooded. If not, if it had fallen prey to some kind of flood or disaster, then the everyday items of the residents lives were washed away or buried in the mud. All that was left was the structures themselves, and they were crumbling away too. The camera looked around nervously, then settled on Rene. Rene shrugged. She reached into her pocket and pulled something out. It was an old antique bell, the kind that a farm wife might ring to call everyone in for supper. “Yeah, I think so, ” Rene replied to Beths unseen question. “The guy said it was from this town, but who knows. As far as we can tell, she was the schoolteacher. ” Rene carefully and ceremoniously set the handbell down on an exposed rock jutting out of the mud. She looked at Beth, then back and forth down the muddy valley. Suddenly she screamed, and pointed uphill. The camera swung quickly around and settled on a figure standing in the mud about fifty paces away. It was that same grey-haired woman, but now I realized that she wasnt grey from age. She was grey from head to toe, covered in that same mud. She pointed directly at the camera, and just stood there. The camera starts shaking, and it seems like Beth and Rene are trying to quickly get out of there. At this point they must hear whats coming. At the last moment, the camera turns back towards the woman, but this time shes not there. Shes obscured behind an enormous thirty-foot tall wall of white water, rushing down the valley, coming towards the camera at high speed. There was no time to escape. The camera gets caught up in the wake. It doesnt go too far down the valley, because its snapped securely into its waterproof case, which is strapped to Beths wrist, who is tied to the aspen tree. So it spins around and around for a few minutes, and as the initial rush of water goes past it settles to the bottom of the reservoir and lies still, pointed back up the hill where the woman is still standing, unmoved by the water. She is still staring directly into the lens. This is the final shot, and it lasts for another four minutes. Everything is underwater, dark and still. The woman stands there unflinching the entire time. Near the end, Renes body floats slowly into view, still tethered to the faraway tree. Thats the video. And now you probably know why I described it, instead of just uploading for you to watch. It was meant for me all along. I knew this for sure on January 20, when I went back and watched the scene in the Chinese restaurant. You see, the reason I was able to figure out the exact date of the video is because Im sitting there, in the background, eating my fried rice with a spoon. You can see me clearly once you zoom in. Im wearing my red hoodie and black jeans. After I watched the video, she started showing up everywhere. She comes to my window at night, watching me sleep. I see her in playgrounds, back alleys, out of the corner of my eye. I went to the movies and she was in the front row, but was gone when the movie let out. She wont leave me alone, and I know what I have to do now. Marcs coming with me, she found him too. He agrees with me, we need to follow Rene and Beths path and try to satisfy the woman in the reservoir. Ive barely slept in weeks; she is ruining my life. On the way there, were going to have to figure out our offering to her. I have no idea what will satisfy her, but I have to try. Im on my way to the pawn shop to buy a video camera, just in case. (Wish us luck. The only question left- and the thing I need your help with- where is she? Thats why Im posting. I dont know where to find the village...

Watch never let me go movie online. It's hard to believe that I saw this on MTV over 20 years ago. Even harder to believe MTV use to play music videos. Sometimes Always Never Movie watch. Watch never back down full movie. Always korean movie eng sub watch online. Jack reacher never go back full movie watch online. This is gonna flop. Sometimes always never movie watching.

Sometimes always never movie watch faces.

Sometimes always never movie watch live. So I've only been using weed for 3 years or so, and I've obviously realized how well it goes with a good movie, but the thing that always irks me is that just about every list of "BEST MOVIES TO WATCH WHILE HIGH" is loaded with low-effort stoner comedies like Up In Smoke or Dude, Where's My Car? While I don't deny that weed is a seasoning that can really kick those movies up a few notches, I think it's a bit shortsighted to claim that the best movies to watch with weed are movies that are already about weed. So what am I looking for? Movies that are DENSE; movies that have layers that weed can help you slow down and appreciate moreso than you would if you were sober; movies that offer thinking points, or show glimpses into complex worlds or concepts which weed can help magnify. I know people always speak highly of nature documentaries, but I'm looking for entirely creative works; something that was once just an idea floating around in some dude's head. I'mma give you a few of my favorites as examples: Star Trek: The Motion Picture. Long heralded as the most boring Star Trek movie, this thing always put me to sleep, even though I've been an avid Trekker all my life. Watching it while high was an eye-opener though; so much of this movie is dedicated to sprawling, atmospheric imagery that is meant to illustrate just how small humanity's place in the cosmos is. The plot is pretty basic, but it gives you plenty to think about while you look at some compelling special effects that legit still look good today. Blade Runner. Another movie I never cared for when I was younger, but that shines while blazed. Apart from being a dazzling look at a dystopian sci-fi future with great visuals and amazing music, the movie also has a lot of subtle worldbuilding and waxes frequently about the nature of humanity, which is always cool to chew on when you're stoned. And did I mention the music? I think I slipped into pure euphoria just from the scene were Rick is flying to the Tyrell Corporation; a feast for the eyes and ears. Any Studio Ghibli Movie. If you like animation, these are no-brainers. While I only, personally, like a handful of them, I find they're all loaded with so much detail that there's always something to appreciate. Anime has always been big on clearly showing the "nuts and bolts" of everything, and Ghibli movies tend to do it the best. Just about any still frame from a movie will be loaded with detailed depictions of fictional people, locations, animals, foods, devices or whatever that are all worth noticing. Nausicaa and Castle in the Sky are two of my favorites for this (Spirited Away is overrated, fight me. Your favorite movie. This has probably occured to you, but the best movie to watch while high is one that you personally have a lot of investment in, especially if it's something you've been watching since you were a kid. My favorite movie is The Blues Brothers, and the last time I watched it while toking, I legit broke into tears during the credits because of all the wonderful memories that came back to me, and how much I realized the movie affected my life. Plus, dat music. So yeah, you don't have to be as verbose as I am, I just like hearing myself type, but I'd still like to hear some reasoning behind your choices. What are some of your favorite movies to watch while you smoke your thinkin' pipe? EDIT: Thanks for all the great feedback. You can and should also definitely recommend good SHOWS to watch while high as well. I'm particularly fond of Samurai Jack; it's a masterclass in visual storytelling, sometimes entire episodes have only a few lines of dialogue, and the storyboarding and sound design are exemplary. It's also wonderfully dynamic; some episodes are downright frightening or heartbreaking, while others have the same tone as a Hannah-Barbera cartoon.
